“Children running from a thunderstorm” is one of the most charming paintings of the Wanderers by Konstantin Makovsky. In those years, he traveled a lot in Russia, brought sketches, and sometimes finished paintings from the Saratov, Tver, Tambov provinces. But it was this picture that he finished in St. Petersburg. She has a very interesting story.

We see a barefoot girl, she has collected mushrooms tied in her apron, a little brother sits on her shoulders, tightly clasping her sister with chubby arms. The girl is dressed in a simple sundress. She looks around frightened to where the clouds are coming from, wondering if they'll make it home before the downpour hits. The boy buried himself in it, he does not look at the clouds. It can be seen that he is also frightened, and his sister seems to him a protection. Looking at these children, we imagine quite real peasant children, and at the same time we recall the fabulous Alyonushka and Ivanushka.
