Plot

Renoir puts the emphasis on people, on their life in the moment, rather than on nature - even the horizon line is just high enough that the sky is almost invisible.

He manages to convey a typical summer day of rest for the high society of France in the finest detail, no matter how paradoxical this may seem, given the fact that the author completely and completely refused to depict clear details of reality.

In the center, several groups are having leisurely conversations in the shade of a tree, and on the sides of them people are enjoying the coolness of the Seine River - some on boats, others just swimming.

The canvas is made in light shades, without their wide spectrum and sharp color contrast. In this case, blue and green colors were used - you can see how on the horizon the fluffy trees practically merge with the water, which gives the landscape a special limitation and involuntarily forces you to return to the contemplation of people.

With his creation, Pierre Auguste Renoir managed to preserve the elusive moment. It does not need deep analysis or any interpretation - it calls to look and feel a summer day. Listen to your feelings just as the master himself did when writing a masterpiece.
